Bath Time Retreat

Sunday afternoon’s are never up for grabs in my life. Come rain or shine they are designated as “Lotz Time” and it is probably the part of the weekend I look forward to the most……well..…it’s joint favourite with my standing Sunday Breakfast date with The Boy.

As I have said before baths, like cups of tea, have restorative properties. They can relax you, revitalise you, sooth skin complaints, relieve your muscle and joint pain or even just ease all the woes of the week.

Today I wanted to go through all the little tricks and tips I have for having the best relaxing bath you can……

Turn Off your Phone!

All you need for a relaxing bath is the piece and quiet around you. If you really need to, and sometimes we do, I would recommend finding a safe dry place to put your laptop and watch a movie or netflix or Youtube….but stay off the social media people!! There is no need to share this precious alone time, so do not devalue it by allowing others to take up your time!

Pre-bath Prep:

Prep is key when you trying to spend time on yourself. Personally I like to get all of the nonsense that I have to do before spending these few hours to myself.

I start this prep with making a hair mask. Anything that involves my hair I find arduous, so getting that out of the way is great. Personally I mix 1 pump of shampoo with 2 pumps of conditioner, however I would not recommend this to anyone who does not have hair like mine.

The purple in my hair requires a lot of toner to keep it that way, so buy leaving this mix of purple gunk on my hair for a few hours underneath a shower cap I can keep my colour as bright as possible.

The same with shaving. Sorry for the over share, but its true! It’s a massive pain in the butt, but, by getting it out of the way first, you do not have to worry about it until next week if you do it now!

Pre-relaxation mood:

The way you feel in your relaxation time is very important. Taking a bath is only half of it. Creating a relaxing atmosphere is one of the most amazing things you can do. Once you have ti down in the bathroom, you can recreate it all over the house….however that is a story for another day.

Candles are the best part of creating an atmosphere.

For relaxing baths, I opt rate my Jo Malone stash. Peony and Blushed Suede is my absolute favourite!!


For revitalising baths I can not go with anything other than citrus candles. This one is from Anthropology and has the most beautiful grapefruit fragrance.


At this point, I turn the lights off and and just sink into the tub… what is in my bath water…other than myself:

Lush Bath Bombs….this is the only advice I can give you. I am loyal to a fault with these products.They are Vegan, not tested on animals, and quite frankly AMAZING!!

When I need a pick me up I opt for Avobath.

It’s an amazing mix of brightness and soothing properties to make you feel like a million bucks. This is also a great bath bomb if you have any bites or sores on your skin. I had something on my ankle at the beginning of the month, used this bath bomb and the next day it was 75% better!!

Down side: it leave a yellow ring around the bath, so please clean it out afterwards! I have checked, this is not just me, this happens.

When I am in a lot of pain, I go for Yogabomb.

This is like a massage and a stretch in a bath bomb. It is amazing at making you feel relaxed in your body and your mind……funnily enough, just like a yoga session. This bomb gets an extra boost when you ensure that the water is extra warm. This way the scent fills the room and you achieve this amazing aromatherapy feel in your own bathroom.

Down side: this leaves glitter EVERYWHERE, so make sure that you wash the bath down afterwards, The Boy was not too impressed with his glittery feet the other week!!

So that is how I spend my Sunday afternoons, every weekend, without fail……
