So many people out there suffer from Seasonal Adjustment Disorder…….some don’t even know they have it. The way my Mama (who suffered from this) explained it has stuck with me over the years. She said it was like having a cloud follow you around for a whole season.Sadly I see this in so many people that I wanted to create a nice little Self Care bundle to get you thought the cold months.
Before we start you need to know something: I am not going to tell you how to turn your heating up so high it feels like you are in Jamaica, or ways to save for a quick sunny getaway……..today we are doing the complete opposite. I am going to show you how to embrace the season so you can come out the other side looking forward to Spring, not wishing away the Winter.
So……let’s get into some Cold Weather Self Care:
Start on the inside – Vitamin D:
They call Vitamin D the “Sunshine Vitamin”….given that the Sunshine is missing a lot this time of year, it’s time to replace it within our diets.
The best way to bring this back to your body is through your diet with oily fish, eggs, fortified milk and cereals…..however…..if these are not in your diet regularly (naughty naughty) you can add in a supplement. If you are opting for a supplement, it is best to go for a spray as this gets into your system a lot faster.
Time to Hydrate:
Drinking plenty of water is a given, but with the heating being turned up and the sudden flashes of cold air when you exit a building, your skin is going to have a fit and be very dry.
This time of year it is wise to opt for a body and facial oil. You can pick a very natural oil what can be used all over, however I do like to keep my skincare and body are separate. This way I can have something scented for my body, and something very simple for my face.
The best ones out there are bio oil and anything by either Nuxe or Kiel’s.
Take a walk:
It’s time to embrace that chill people! Bundle up warm and get outside.
This sounds counter productive to everyone, but you will be surprised how amazing it can feel to go for a long walk in the crispy leaves…..maybe stopping at a pub or coffee shop on your travels.
After a long walk in the cold, there is nothing like a sinking into a hot bath to warm your up. They are both restorative and calming all at the same time.
I recommend a winter scented bath bomb or bath oils, a candle and some soothing music to make you feel a million times better.
Bonus Tip: pop you PJ’s in the drier or on the heater for a few minutes after you bath. This way you stay nice and warm…..and there is nothing like warm PJ’s.
Hygge your home:
Last year we were all talking about hygge! The Scandinavian trend that has finally reached another deserving area. Hygge is all about acknowledging the feeling and the moment of being cozy with yourself, friends and family.
The quickest and easiest way to Hygge your home is to grab some blankets, pop the heating on, grab a hot chocolate and enjoy the moment. It’s time to embrace the season for what it is, and the joy that it can bring you.
